Cancer Infographic 1

Challenge

For this personal project, I wanted to understand cancer better — what it is, where it occurs, and how it develops.

Process

Using information readily available from the American Cancer Society, I pieced together a more complete picture of 20 types of cancer, with short descriptions of their symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and risk factors. Of most value to me was the mapping of cancers to the parts of the body they affected; by name alone, many are difficult to understand.

Results

Aside from discovering that almost no part or system of the body is spared from some form of cancer, I realized that a number of cancers can largely be prevented through behavior changes, such as quitting smoking, exercising, and eating healthy.
